Objective: This article explains why HuskiMail may return an SMTP 550 error stating that your account has sent too many emails, and what to do if you encounter it.
If you see this error, HuskiMail has temporarily prevented your email address from sending additional messages because it exceeded the allowed sending rate. These limits help protect HuskiMail customers and the overall mail system from spam and abuse.
The Error #
You may see an error similar to:
SMTP Error (550: Failed to add recipient "[email]" (User account [your email] has sent too many emails).)
This means your email account has exceeded one of HuskiMail’s sending rate limits.
HuskiMail Sending Limits #
Each HuskiMail email address can send up to:
- 400 messages per hour
- 9,600 messages per day
Messages sent through email forwarders also count toward these limits. For example, if an address receives a message and automatically forwards it to another address, that forwarded message contributes to the sending rate for the forwarding account.
Sending more than these limits can resemble the behavior of a compromised account or spam sender, so HuskiMail’s security systems restrict additional sending.
What to Do #
-
Stop sending additional messages temporarily.
If you’ve reached the hourly sending limit, allow time for the rate limit to reset before sending more email. -
Check what is sending or forwarding email from your account.
If you weren’t expecting this volume of email, check any devices, email clients, websites, plugins, forwarders, or other applications configured to use your HuskiMail account. -
Check your email forwarders.
Because forwarded messages count toward the sending limits, an address that receives and forwards a large number of messages can reach the limit even if you aren’t manually sending email from it. -
Avoid using email forwarding with automations.
We do not recommend forwarding HuskiMail messages to an address or service used for automated processing. Automations can generate or process a large number of messages in a short period of time, causing a forwarding account to reach its rate limit quickly. -
Use a dedicated service for automated or high-volume email.
HuskiMail is intended primarily for human-to-human business email. If your workflow requires automated processing, high-volume sending, or large numbers of forwarded messages, you should use a service designed for that purpose.

Notes #
If you unexpectedly encounter this error and don’t recognize the volume of email being sent, investigate your account, forwarders, and any connected applications. Unexpected high-volume sending could indicate a misconfigured automation, an unusually busy forwarder, or unauthorized use of the account.
