Overview #
Huski Members includes a more dedicated directory search system. The directory can show search controls and custom field filters so visitors can narrow member listings more easily.
This is especially useful as the directory grows. A small directory can be browsed manually. A larger directory needs better ways to find the right member.
Where This Shows #
The public directory page uses [huskimembers_directory]. The search and filters appear as part of that directory experience when configured fields are available.
What Visitors Can Filter By #
- Keyword search.
- Category or directory filters.
- Profile fields that have been enabled as filters.
How Custom Field Filters Work #
Profile fields can be marked as search filters from the Profile Fields screen. When a field is set up for filtering, the directory search system can use it to build filter controls.
This works best for fields with clean, consistent values. Choice-based fields are usually better filter candidates than long open-ended text fields.
How to Set It Up #
- Go to Huski Members > Profile Fields.
- Review which fields should be useful as public filters.
- Enable search filtering for the right fields.
- Save fields.
- Open the directory page and test the filters.
Best Practices #
- Do not turn every field into a filter.
- Use filters for things visitors actually care about.
- Keep field values consistent.
- Use select-style fields for cleaner filtering.
- Test filters on the public directory after changing field settings.
Troubleshooting #
- A field does not appear as a filter: Check whether search filter is enabled for that field.
- Filter results feel messy: Clean up inconsistent field values.
- No members show after filtering: Clear filters and make sure members have matching values.
- The directory feels too crowded: Reduce the number of fields enabled as filters.
That’s it, dawg!
